That's indeed very upsetting! The original photographer http://jst-ru.livejournal.com/72590.html#cutid1 says that those are mostly the out-of-date technical books, but there are also some literary journals. Probably no one really needs them now, but they could at least utilise this as a vast paper... I hate to trow the books out like this. Many local libraries in Russia are now really in a sorry state because people read less now and a lot of people read books online.
