I was flying this week and had the opportunity to test out the new scanning system on my way home. Unfortunately I didn't get to see how I looked -- I just know it presumably confirmed that I wasn't carrying any dangerous items.
On that trip my luggage contained some heavy pieces of metal -- family silver, a big tuned windchime made of hollow tubes, and a mantel clock from the 19th century. When we got home we found notices from the Transportation Safety Administration that the luggage had been checked and if TSA busted something, well, sorry but those are the breaks. I found that reassuring. They ought to be able to catch suspicious tubes etc. in my luggage.
It was all dealt with without anyone being obnoxious.

Where you flying within the USA or did you fly in from Canada?
ReplyDeleteIIRC the security screening, including body scanners is being done for flights into the USA from foreign airports.
Is it being done on USA domestic flights?
I am planning all of my 2010 USA flights to originate from Buffalo to avoid additional security checks (with hassles and delays) instead of Toronto. (Helps that BUF is actually close to me than YYZ).
BTW the TSA checked my armour bag which I took on my wedding trip back in 2008. No questions from them just the standard card.
My flights were all from US airports. The new scanning machine was at Tulsa.

ReplyDeleteMy checked luggage was opened last week when I flew home from Malta. All was explained when I thought about what several bars of maltese nougat and a cell phone looked like on an x-ray.
